Marjan Simčič's pursuit of excellence has led him to identify exceptional grapes in his single vineyard locations, designating them as Grand Crus. These specific CRU vineyards allow him to create the finest wines that reflect the unique character of the micro-terroir found in Opoka soil.

OPOKA CRU

Marjan Simčič's pursuit of excellence has driven him to strive for the creation of the finest wines that reflect the unique characteric of the different particular mikro terroirs of OPOKA soil.

Between 2003 and 2005, he precisely analysed each vineyard site, delving 10 meters deep into the soil, assessing microclimatic conditions, and studying historical records of previous vintages. This exacting evaluation aimed to identify vineyards with exceptional characteristics, ultimately confirming their status as GRAND CRUS on his estate.

All of these vineyards find their place in the renowned Medana catastre, a place steeped in historical significance. As early as 1786, Emperor Joseph II's Classification of Wines in the Princely Country of Gorizia and Gradisca placed our vineyard in the village of Medana within the esteemed first class. This enduring recognition serves as a testament to the exceptional quality of the vineyard's location, guiding the careful selection of the most suitable grape variety for each specific microlocation within the vineyards.

Our Cru vineyards exclusively consist of single-vineyard sites, boasting vines that stand the test of time, ranging from 40 to 96 years in age, with a few even celebrating an illustrious century of existence. Nesteled at higher elevations and blessed with lower yields, these vineyards serve as the foundation of our esteemed Opoka line. Our Opoka wines, a testament to our family legacy, incorporate comprehensive analyses of the soil's geological composition and the microclimatic conditions of each individual plot.

Our deep understanding of each grape variety plays a pivotal role in the production process, guided by a profound respect for nature and its natural cycles. We prioritize manual harvesting, ensuring perfect ripeness, capturing essence of pure fruit expression, and employing respectful vinification techniques.

We take immense pride in crafting Opoka wines from 2008 onwards that exhibit royal elegance, vibrancy, verticality, and extraordinary longevity. These wines retain their youthful charmeven as time gracefully unfolds its story. Each grape variety finds its expressive voice, and despite their aging potential, they continue to captivate with their enduring appeal.
